Which kratom varieties (strains) are available?

In the kratom world, a distinction is mainly made between the three main varieties, namely red, green and white. Users attribute different properties to the different varieties. For example, green kratom is suitable for painting energetic pictures, while red kratom is more suitable for calm and gentle motifs. How do kratom varieties (strains) differ in production?

First, the kratom leaves are harvested by the farmers. Unlike deciduous trees in Germany, the kratom tree in the rainforest grows all year round and, as a rule, leaves ready for harvesting can be harvested every four weeks. The leaves can be at different stages of growth when they are harvested. At a young stage of growth, the leaves of the kratom tree have red veins, but these are only partially suitable for harvesting. As the leaves age and grow, the red color decreases more and more until it finally turns green. A leaf that is ready for harvesting usually no longer has red veins. The difference in the color of the end product kratom, as we know it, is solely due to the type of drying or fermentation. After harvesting, the leaves are first collected and then dried either in the sun or in large drying huts, similar to those used for tobacco curing. Drying the leaves produces a green powder after grinding. In addition to drying, the leaves can also be fermented. To do this, a bag of fresh leaves is usually tied tightly into a ball with plastic film and left in the sun. The leaves lose their green color through fermentation and the end product has a brown-reddish color. Kratom has different properties depending on the location, soil, season and processing. These different properties are explained in more detail in the next section.
