Mulungu (coral tree) – Everything you need to know about the plant
Mulungu (botanical name: Erythrina mulungu) is a tree native to South America, mainly found in Brazil, but also in other countries such as Bolivia, Peru and Paraguay. It belongs to the Fabaceae (legume) family and is known for its striking red flowers and its many uses in traditional medicine and culture.
The fully grown Mulungu tree can reach a height of up to 10 meters and has distinctive red, sponge-like hardenings on its bark that are reminiscent of coral. For this reason, it is often referred to as a coral tree. This hardening of the bark is not only characteristic of the tree, but also serves as protection against predators and external influences.
